Passports
The travelers must produce the valid passport issued by the national government of his or her country while applying visa for India visit. The passport is required for identification and authenticity. Then only visa will be issued by the High Commissioner of India located in each foreign country.
Visas for India Travel
The visa is a vivid stamp or preset text attached to a passport by the Indian consular office located aboard or the Indian Embassy. Any foreign national must have a valid visa to travel India. However the nationals of Maldives can visit India up to three moths without visa. The nationals of Nepal and Bhutan don’t need visa to travel India. The nationals of these countries have to produce their valid passport, photo identity card and emergency certificate issued by Embassy of India.
Tourist Visa on Arrival
Tourist Visa on arrival is granted to the nationals of the countries such as Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore. The citizens of these countries can visit India with their valid passport which they have to produce at the airport on arrival.
Requirements for Visa
A foreign national requires the following documents for visa:
- Original passport valid for at least 6 months
- Visa fee
- Two passport size photographs (5 photographs in case of Pakistani Nationals)
- Supporting documents
- Application form should be duly completed
NB. The Pakistani and Bangladeshi Nationals have to apply on a special form for visa application.
Types of Visa
- Tourist Visa
The tourist visa is granted for six months. The visa is effective from the date of issue. The tourist visa is non-extendible. The travel agents are allowed to for longer visas when they need to visit India frequently. - Transit Visas
Indian Missions grant a special type of visa called transit visa for a duration of 15 days. - Collective Visas
Authorized and renowned travel agency can apply for a collective visa for the group of the tourist who plan to travel India. The individuals have to submit their valid documents to the Indian Embassy located in their country. If the application fulfills the rules and regulations collective visa is issued by the Indian High Commissioner. - Business Visa
The Indian High Commissioner on behalf of the government grants business visa for 3 to 6 months. 2 years extensions are allowed to the technicians/experts those of who visit India on account of joint venture schemes bearing government approval. - Student Visa
Indian Embassies grant student visa up to five years after scrutinizing the proof of education. - Employment Visa
After getting appointment of any company one has to provide the evidence of employment for employment visa. - Conference Visa
Those of who want to visit India for conference must inform the Indian Embassy separately for their conference visa. - Media
Media professionals and film makers must have to apply for separately mentioning their assignments or works. - Special Permits
Some areas of India are restricted. If the tourist wants to visit any sensitive area they have to take special permits at no extra charge from the governmental agencies within India or from the Indian missions abroad.
Extension of Visa in Delhi -Ministry of Home Affairs
The tourist visa is not extended after 180 days without any exception. If any foreign national needs extension he or she has to give up his Certificate of Registration and Residential authorization before departing India. One can contact the following office for visa extension:
